Positive Leadership Qualities
Pages
We conducted research with approximately 4,000 people, asking them to identify the qualities that are more likely to make them follow a leader. Although there were a wide range of answers, there were also some recurring themes. There were five traits that appeared more often than any other:
- honesty (mentioned by 12%)
- confidence (11%)
- knowledgable (9%)
- intelligent (8%)
- ability (7%)
Of these traits, the only one that you can't develop much is intelligence. You can improve the others through training, experience. and other forms of learning and development.
Other words that tended to appear often included: listener(5%), doing (5%), strong (5%), fairness (5%), vision (5%) , respect (4%), willingness (4%), compassion (4%) , people-oriented (4%), takes advice/criticism (4%). Again, most of these are personal traits that can be developed.
